Al-Sudais finished his early schooling in Riyadh and, by the time he was twelve, had committed the Quran to memory.
In Riyadh, he completed his education at "Al-Muthana Bin Harith Elementary School."
In 1983, he graduated from Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University with a bachelor's degree in Sharia.
In 1987, he graduated from Umm Al-Qura University with a master's degree in Islamic foundations.
With an emphasis on Islamic ideas, he also has a PhD in Islamic Sharia from Umm Al-Qura University.
In 1984, at the tender age of 22, Al-Sudais was appointed as an imam and khateeb (preacher) in the Grand Mosque.
He has led millions of Muslims in prayer over the years, especially during Ramadan and the Hajj, when his passionate and accurate recitation of the Quran has won praise from all over the world.
Additionally, starting in 2012, he oversaw the development and administration of the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah and the Grand Mosque in Makkah as the chairman of the Presidency for the Two Holy Mosques Affairs.
